CCCA – Austria's Climate Research Network

The Climate Change Centre Austria – CCCA was founded on 18 July 2011 as a non-profit association in Vienna.

The Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA) is a network supported by leading Austrian research institutions that brings together, strengthens and raises the profile of climate and climate impact research. It provides scientifically sound information on climate-related topics to policymakers, society and the media, and offers advisory support where needed. In this way, CCCA serves as the central point of contact for questions relating to climate and climate impact research as well as socio-ecological transformation in Austria – and makes a significant contribution to constructive, sustainable climate dialogue.

The term "climate research" encompasses the scientific engagement with climate change, its physical, political, economic, cultural and social causes, the impacts of climate change on society, the economy and the environment, strategies for climate protection (mitigation) and climate change adaptation (adaptation), as well as the identification of vulnerabilities and capacities.

Support
CCCA supports its members in achieving their research goals and draws on the original research of its members in all its activities.

Responsibility
CCCA sees it as its social responsibility to produce and communicate scientifically grounded contributions towards addressing the challenge of climate change.

Point of contact
CCCA positions itself as the go-to point of contact for all questions relating to the physical and societal basis of climate change, as well as to climate change adaptation and climate protection measures.

"Climate research" encompasses the scientific engagement with

  • Climate change
  • Causes of climate change (physical, political, economic, cultural, social)
  • Impacts of climate change on society, the economy and the environment
  • Mitigation (strategies for climate protection)
  • Adaptation (climate change adaptation)
  • Identification of vulnerabilities / capacities

Mitigation and adaptation include

  • Design / implementation of measures
  • Changes in societal patterns of production, consumption / behaviour

To achieve its vision of strengthening high-quality climate research in Austria, raising its international profile and embedding it at the national level, CCCA operates three operational facilities:

  • CCCA Geschäftsstelle (CCCA Coordination Office)
  • CCCA Servicezentrum (CCCA Service Centre)
  • CCCA Datenzentrum (CCCA Data Centre)
