CCCA Annual Overview 2025

The CCCA Activities 2025 provide a compact overview of the key focuses and activities of the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA) for the year 2025. They present central events, projects, communication measures, international cooperations and strategic developments. The aim is to further strengthen networking, knowledge transfer and the visibility of Austrian climate research and to make a contribution to climate protection and climate change adaptation

CCCA Annual Overview 2024

Why the year 2024 brought both successes and challenges for the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA), and how the umbrella organisation for university and non-university sustainability initiatives was able to consolidate its central role as a climate research network despite uncertainties regarding funding and planning… The just-published CCCA Annual Overview 2024 offers insights into this and much more, with figures, data and facts.

The CCCA network was strengthened, international progress was made, including the establishment of the INBOA network and the publication of the klima2go database. The K3 Congress in Graz and the CCCA statement on the role of science in society represent a further milestone, reflecting the climate research community's commitment to actively contributing to societal transformation through evidence-based knowledge.

Timely and, given recent developments, more important than ever!

Looking ahead, CCCA hopes for clarity on open questions regarding its structure and to be able to focus more fully on the substantive challenges surrounding climate change, Austrian climate and climate impact research, and climate change issues.

CCCA Annual Overview 2023

Climate change continues to advance with all its impacts at nearly unabated pace. Current Austrian measures are insufficient to deliver the required national contribution to emissions reduction and climate stabilisation. Austria's greenhouse gas emissions did fall in 2023, but despite international and national commitments they remain at a high level. Moreover, the approximately 14.5 billion euros in climate-damaging subsidies introduced by the Austrian federal government in 2022 continue to fuel global warming.

CCCA remains active. 2023 was all about public outreach and awareness-raising. The CCCA community worked together with the Leopold Museum on the exhibition »A Few Degrees More«, reaching yet another new audience. In addition to the culturally engaged public, dialogue was also sought with members of parliament…

CCCA Annual Overview 2022

The Austrian climate community is growing.

Numerous new initiatives are forming, protests are stirring debate and the topic is increasingly dominating the media as well. Climate science isn't sleeping either: alongside the launch of work on the 2nd APCC assessment report on climate change, a background paper on Austria's remaining greenhouse gas budgets — developed collaboratively within the community — was published, followed just a few days later by the APCC Special Report on Structures for Climate-Friendly Living.

The new Klimaszenarien.AT initiative aims to develop new climate scenarios for Austria under the umbrella of CCCA, led by ZAMG (GSA: since 01.01.2023 ZAMG has been known as GeoSphere Austria) and the CCCA Service Centre. In addition, the Wissenssnacks were introduced as a new knowledge transfer format. These offer a brief insight into various climate-relevant topics in a compact postcard format.

CCCA Annual Overview 2021

In 2021, our network got to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The past ten years have been marked by ups and downs, great successes but also disagreements. The alarming trajectory of the climate makes the work of CCCA and its now 29 member organisations, 3 operational facilities and numerous partner organisations ever more important and demands increasing levels of commitment. With 2021, we entered a decade that will be decisive for the future climate of our planet...

CCCA Annual Report 2020

2020 was a challenging year for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic brought home to us, alongside the fragility of life, the vulnerability and systemic risks of our social structures and global economic structures. The climate crisis, however, has the potential to produce even more severe impacts on our lives. But we still have the chance to curb climate change. To do so, collective efforts are urgently needed — efforts we unfortunately still have to push for, five years after the Paris Climate Agreement.

Despite the cancellation of some events (e.g. Klimatag), CCCA and its institutions can look back on numerous successful activities, such as the publication of the Climate Status Report 2019, the completion of the current-state analysis of research activities at Austrian universities and non-university research institutions on behalf of the BMBWF, and the virtual networking event on the topic of health and climate change, held jointly with the British Embassy. Together with the Alliance of Sustainable Universities, UniNEtZ and Scientists for Future Austria, we launched a scientists' appeal for a united front on climate policy, which has so far been signed by over 750 researchers. These and further activities are described in more detail in the Annual Report 2020.

CCCA Annual Report 2019

The year 2019 once again brought a wealth of activities and successes for the Climate Change Centre Austria and its member organisations. The annual report provides an overview of, among other things, the strengthened collaboration between Austrian climate research and civil society to give the call for effective climate policy greater collective impact, international visibility and capacity building, engagement with the business sector, and the promotion of early-career researchers.

New this time is the publication of the annual report in English as well!

CCCA Annual Report 2018

Under the motto "CCCA goes International", the highlights of CCCA's activities in 2018 have once again been compiled in an annual report. It offers a compact overview of the services and offerings of the CCCA facilities, events, collaborations, and the many activities of the CCCA community. You can find the online version here. The print version is available at the Klimatag and at other CCCA events.

CCCA Annual Report 2017

For the first time since its establishment, CCCA has put together an annual report to present its services and offerings, events and collaborations, projects and public outreach, and much more, in a clear and concise format.

This is now set to happen every year, so that visibility can be increased and collaboration can be showcased in the best possible way.
