Heat is the greatest climate change-related health risk in Austria!
Heat affects everyone and can put anyone at risk. That risk is set to increase further in the coming years. Despite the "National Heat Protection Plan Austria" published in 2024, awareness of the dangers of heat and concrete measures to protect particularly vulnerable people at the level of cities, municipalities, institutions, and organisations are still not sufficiently in place. It's time for all of us to change that together! The first Austrian Heat Action Day on 4 June 2025 took place under the motto "Heat Protection Plan for EVERYONE".
More than 70 partners nationwide supported the day and organised over 60 events across Austria between April and September 2025. Across a variety of event formats – both online and in person – awareness was raised about the dangers of heat. Heat protection can only be advanced through networking and collective action, and every activity as part of this action day made a significant contribution!
This success is set to continue in 2026. The Heat Action Day 2026, taking place on 9 June across Austria under the patronage of FBM Korinna Schumann (BMASGPK), is once again intended to be a driving force for further strengthening heat protection and sustainably raising awareness of the impacts of climate change on health. The 2026 motto is "Cool Solutions in the Workplace", to draw attention to the daily burdens faced by this target group and to develop strategies together for their protection.
