38.7 degrees: fourth warmest summer on record


With peak temperatures of 38.7 degrees in Seibersdorf (Lower Austria), the summer of 2022 was the fourth warmest in the 255-year history of meteorological records. "Based on data from all weather stations, 2022 and 2015 could end up tied for third place. The summers of 2003 and 2019 remain at the top," reported Alexander Orlik from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG).

38.7 degrees: Summer 2022 was hot and dry

This year's summer was hot and dry, and brought heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms in some areas. The lowest air temperature was recorded in Ehrwald (Tyrol) at 4.0 degrees. The wettest location in 2022 was Rudolfshütte (Salzburg) with a precipitation reading of 699 millimetres, and the driest was Podersdorf (Burgenland) with just 140 millimetres of rainfall. Andau (Burgenland) saw the most sunshine with 875 hours, whilst Sulzberg (Vorarlberg) recorded the least with 802 hours.
