A report published on Thursday identifies shortcomings in all EU member states in the implementation of these targets. Austria ranks pretty near the bottom of the comparison. Just last year, the EU-28 had set themselves ambitious targets. The most important of these is that emissions of climate-damaging carbon dioxide (CO2) should be reduced to zero by 2050. The European Commission put forward "a clean planet for all" as its motto. However, this goal still seems quite a long way off.
