Austria's most-cited researchers

Clarivate Analytics has published the list of "Highly Cited Researchers 2019". According to the list, 6,216 individuals make up the top one per cent of the most-cited researchers. Among them are 44 researchers working at least partly in Austria, slightly more than in the previous year.

For the analysis, the data company drew on scientific papers published and cited in the period from 2008 to 2018. All researchers who rank in the top one per cent of their scientific field in the survey year are considered "Highly Cited Researchers 2019". How often a paper has been cited by other colleagues in the field is, alongside the number of publications in specialist journals, a measure of the scientific relevance of a researcher's work.
