Award: Sigrid Stagl is Scientist of the Year


Climate economist Sigrid Stagl has been named Austria's Scientist of the Year 2024 by the Club of Education and Science Journalists. The researcher from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) is "an essential voice of scientific reason in the public discourse around sustainability and climate protection", the club stated in its reasoning. 

On Tuesday, the Club of Education and Science Journalists presented the researcher with the award. With it, Stagl is being honoured for communicating her scientific work on dealing with climate change, the energy crisis and other key societal challenges.

"Science and research are indispensable if we want to tackle the challenges of the future – from climate change to digitalisation, demographic change and education," the club quoted environmental economist Stagl as saying on Tuesday in a press release, in which the award winner also points to the need for a dedicated climate protection ministry… Read more at: science.orf.at or kurier.at
