Eco-friendly, climate-neutral, biodegradable: such vague advertising slogans will no longer be permitted in the EU. Certifications will now be required instead. The European Parliament in Strasbourg has passed a law that more strictly regulates the advertising of environmentally friendly products. General advertising slogans such as "eco-friendly", "climate-neutral", and "biodegradable" will no longer be allowed to appear on products in the European Union without solid evidence to back them up. The law aims to put a stop to so-called greenwashing, whereby misleading advertising is used to promote supposedly environmentally friendly products.
