BFW Practice Day 2018: Bark Beetles, Ash Trees and More

"Our answers to questions about the future" on 17 January 2018 in Vienna, Ort, Ossiach, and Innsbruck.

Bark beetles are a perennial topic from a forest protection perspective — at BFW Practice Day 2018, experts will bring you up to speed on the current situation and attempt to give an outlook for 2018. In addition, the current forest protection situation will be presented, and pathological issues will be discussed from a genetic perspective. We'd especially like to draw your attention to the event in Vienna on 17 January 2018.

Globalisation is increasingly keeping the BFW busy. Whether it's timber packaging controls, the EU Timber Trade Regulation, or the FLEGT licensing scheme — all aimed at tackling the problem of illegal logging and the associated trade.

In recent years, a great deal has happened technologically in the field of remote sensing. Resolution has become more precise, and data is increasingly available on a wide-area basis and at regular intervals. What forest inventory can achieve with the help of satellite data, laser scanning, and aerial imagery will be demonstrated. The programme concludes with talks on the possibilities of silviculture in dealing with future challenges, from the perspective of both a forestry practitioner and a BFW expert.
