BOKU is the most sustainable university in the German-speaking world.

The UI GreenMetric Ranking evaluates universities based on their commitment to fighting climate change.

"At last, an Austrian university has secured a top spot in a university ranking: according to the current Green Metric World Universities Ranking 2016, BOKU is among the most sustainable universities in the world — coming in at sixth place globally, fourth in Europe, and first in the German-speaking world. The top spots worldwide go to the University of California Davis, the University of Nottingham, and Wageningen University & Research (Netherlands)." reports Die Presse on 10/01/17.

derStandard: "The ranking for "green" universities was initiated in 2010 by the University of Indonesia and aims to assess the extent to which each university acts as a pioneer, driving force, and multiplier for sustainable development. Criteria include, amongst others, the sustainable design of the campus, the consideration of sustainability and environmental protection in university infrastructure, as well as water and waste management, the university's transport policy, and the role of the environment and sustainability in teaching."
