The NGO umbrella organisation Climate Action Network (CAN) has today published a ranking comparing the climate protection policies of the EU-28.
The report concludes that the 28 EU countries are not doing enough to meet the targets of the Paris climate protection agreement. Austria, assessed by the Alliance for Climate Justice (AfK), has to make do with 14th place.
Global 2000 and the WWF, both members of the Alliance, criticised the poor performance of the EU and Austria in a press release. "The ranking should be a wake-up call for Europe and Austria. We need to do much more to contain the climate crisis. It's already five past twelve," warned WWF climate spokesperson Karl Schellmann in a press release.
"Environment Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP, ed.) must push for an ambitious EU Clean Energy Package and make Austria one of the pace-setters on climate protection at EU level," demanded Johannes Wahlmüller, climate and energy spokesperson for Global 2000.
