The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly noticeable in Styria too — the way precipitation occurs, for instance, has changed significantly. These changes are already having consequences.
It's getting warmer — and not just because spring is gradually arriving, says climate researcher Andreas Gobier: "In Styria, as elsewhere in Austria, we're seeing a temperature rise of around two degrees compared to pre-industrial times."
Precipitation: Less frequent, but more intense
These changes are already having consequences: "The iconic image of climate change in Austria is probably glacier retreat. Climate change also brings with it a shift in the precipitation regime — that doesn't necessarily mean less precipitation, but a change in the direction of precipitation occurring less frequently yet more intensely, with major flooding, storm damage, hail damage...
