July 2025 will go down in Austrian records as an unusually wet and rather cool month. Below-average temperatures have also been forecast for the first days of August. For some people, that's proof enough: the climate crisis is being talked up and sensationalised by the media. What tends to get ignored is a look abroad and at the global climate as a whole. Even in Austria, long-term data tell a clear story.

Individual periods such as a rainy July with subdued temperatures cannot obscure what has been scientific consensus for many years: the climate is changing worldwide – and in Austria too – primarily due to human activity.
