There is consensus within the global climate research community that the ongoing, rapid increase of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere and the resulting global warming poses a major threat to our habitats and, by extension, to us as humans. Increasing heat, drought and other extreme weather events will cause ever greater damage as this century progresses and will threaten the habitability of our environment. The Austrian Parliament therefore ratified the Paris Climate Agreement in 2016. To ensure Austria's contribution to its implementation, the Board of the Austrian climate research network CCCA explicitly supports the demands of the Climate People's Initiative for ambitious and legally binding climate protection. Numerous CCCA experts are advising this citizens' initiative, which in its final phase, from 22 to 29 June 2020, can still be signed at any local municipal office or online via mobile phone signature or citizen card.
You can find the full CCCA press release here.
A group of "Scientists4Future Austria" also supports the Climate People's Initiative and is calling for signatures from 22 June to 29 June 2020, as sustainable living and economic activity is only possible with the right legal framework in place.
