Madrid – The arrival of top politicians at the world climate summit in Madrid was accompanied by some unwelcome news. As every year, the environmental organisations Germanwatch, New Climate Institute and Climate Action Network Europe published the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI). Once again, the top three places were left unoccupied — no country was deemed exemplary enough in its approach to climate protection, the organisations stated.
The United States brings up the rear in the rankings. Although the USA has already announced its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, it is still sitting at the negotiating tables in Madrid this year. Alongside Sweden, Denmark, Morocco and the United Kingdom also performed reasonably well. China reached 30th place.
