Concern about climate change: a green fresh start called for

Concerns about the economic situation, poor marks for Corona policy and openness to a green fresh start. The Gallup Institute has surveyed the mood of Austrians.

A year ago it was 41 – today it's 65 per cent of Austrians who are worried about the economic situation in the country. Looking at the total collapse of the winter season, that doesn't seem entirely unwarranted. No overnight stays in winter 2020/21 means: €15.8 billion in lost revenue and an increase of 200,000 unemployed in the Alpine region (note: the Alpine region here refers to Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg and Styria, but also Graubünden, Bavaria and Bolzano).

This is at least shown by a study by the Society for Applied Economic Research, commissioned by Vitalpin. 67% of Austrians believe that dependence on tourism is the reason why Austria is performing worse economically compared to other EU member states.
