Digitalisation against climate change

As part of the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project CLARITY, AIT is developing digital solutions for climate change adaptation and sustainable urban planning for the future.

The hot summer of 2019 made it abundantly clear how necessary climate assessments and corresponding adaptation measures are in our cities in order to maintain a high quality of life. For the development of sustainable strategies and operational measures in modern cities, the ongoing analysis and preparation of climate data and information is of fundamental importance. This requires effective, intelligent digital platforms and IT systems to enable spatial planning, architecture, transport management, and energy supply to be shaped for our living environments in times of climate change.

In the Horizon 2020 project CLARITY (Integrated Climate Adaptation Service Tools for Improving Resilience Measure Efficiency), coordinated by AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and funded by the EU, innovative digital tools and services are being developed to help analyse and assess the negative impacts of climate change on Europe's cities. Of a total of 17 European partners, those from Austria include, alongside AIT's Center for Digital Safety & Security and Center for Energy, the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG, Vienna), Smart Cities Consulting (SSC, Vienna), and the City of Linz.
