Energy Research 2023: Call for proposals open until 13 March 2024!


The energy research programme of the Climate and Energy Fund makes important contributions to climate neutrality by 2040 with energy innovations "Made in Austria". The aim is to expand technological expertise, strengthen Austria as a hub for clean energy technologies, and improve export opportunities. A budget of approx. 10 million EUR is available for this call for proposals.

What is being funded?

Building on previous experience from the Climate and Energy Fund's research programmes and current developments, the 2023 Energy Research Call for Proposals covers the following specific focus areas:

  • Energy efficiency in energy conversion
  • Core technologies for the electricity and heat transition
  • Negative emission technologies for hard-to-abate emissions
  • Climate change adaptation of energy infrastructure

In addition, one R&D service will be funded for each of the following topics:

  • Carbon Capture and Utilization in Austria – overall assessment of technology pathways and analysis of potentials and areas of strength
  • Climate-neutral waste management – the role of CCUS in municipal waste incineration

Who is eligible for funding? 

This call for proposals is aimed at all stakeholders working on research and development questions related to the focus areas listed above.
