On 19 May 2020, the European Commission (EC) published a consultation open to the entire research & innovation community to help shape the main features of a "Green Deal Call" under Horizon 2020.
Europe's transition to climate neutrality by 2050 is one of the EC's key priorities and was confirmed by the European Council in December 2019. To support this priority, the EC is strengthening research and innovation in connection with the "Green Deal" through a dedicated call under Horizon 2020.
Projects are expected to deliver tangible and visible results relatively quickly and to demonstrate how research and innovation can provide concrete solutions to the Green Deal's main priorities. Alongside technological development and demonstration, the call promotes experimentation and social innovation in new ways of engaging civil society and empowering citizens.
The EC is currently drafting the texts for the 20 topics of the call, which has a budget of approximately 1 billion euros.
Publication of the call is planned for September 2020, and the deadline is expected to be at the end of January 2021.
How can you contribute to shaping the call?
You can help shape the call by taking part in the surveys at the following link for each area: https://ec.europa.eu/info/research-and-innovation/strategy/european-green-deal/call_en
The deadline for online feedback on the call closes on 3 June 2020.
The Green Deal Call consists of 11 areas
- Eight thematic areas reflecting the eight main work areas of the European Green Deal.
- Three horizontal areas (strengthening knowledge, empowering citizens and international cooperation) that cut across the eight thematic areas and offer a longer-term perspective for achieving the transformations set out in the European Green Deal.
