Facebook sets up information section on climate change

The company aims to operate on a climate-neutral basis by 2030 at the latest. Facebook wants to present its users with reliable information on climate change in a dedicated section. The information centre, with access to resources from leading research organisations, is set to be available initially in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the USA, as announced on Tuesday. Facebook had already set up a similar section for the coronavirus pandemic.

Climate-neutral operations by 2030

By 2030, Facebook wants to operate on a climate-neutral basis across its entire value chain, including its suppliers, employees' commutes and business travel. Facebook plans to achieve this primarily through the use of renewable energy and efficiency savings. Among other things, the company expects that, drawing on current experience from the coronavirus crisis, a portion of business travel can be replaced by video conferencing. Facebook intends to offset the remaining emissions with the help of carbon capture technologies.
