What happened?
At the heart of the Raab Valley in Styria lie Austria's most fertile soils, a region known for its award-winning pumpkin seed oil. Yet this precious landscape faces a serious threat: the planned B68Neu road is set to be built through its valuable farmland. This outdated and costly road project endangers the livelihoods of numerous family farms and could lead to expropriations. Despite the fact that two roads and a railway line already exist, the project is being pushed through.
This road project is part of a widespread pattern of outdated transport planning and reckless land consumption in Austria. Which raises the question: do we want to keep watching as our soils are irreversibly destroyed?
CLAW - Climate Law don't want to stand by and watch as more and more of our most valuable soils are sealed over and farmers are expropriated. The team around Michaela Krömer is deploying every legal means available to prevent this. With strong backing from the local community, the affected farmers are fighting resolutely against the B68Neu. Supported by renowned climate lawyer Michaela Krömer and the climate law initiative, legal steps are being taken to protect our home and our future.
