Fever curve: 2022 among the six warmest years since records began


The US climate agency NOAA, NASA and the World Meteorological Organisation presented their annual climate report – and the figures aren't particularly encouraging.

The latest climate data fits seamlessly into the pattern of recent years and once again proves: Planet Earth is getting hotter and hotter. The annual climate report presented on Thursday by the US climate agency NOAA ranks 2022 among the six warmest years since records began. NASA places last year even higher, at number five. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), which presented its data in Geneva on Thursday, reached very similar conclusions. According to the WMO, the global average temperature was around 1.15 degrees above pre-industrial levels (1850–1900).

Compared to the 20th century, Earth's average surface temperatures in the previous year were still 0.86 degrees Celsius higher, according to NOAA.
