Fridays for Future with new global climate protests

On 3 March, the climate movement Fridays For Future is taking to the streets worldwide again, with strikes planned across Austria too, just as in September last year. "Behind us lies an unprecedented winter heatwave, ski resorts are going under, the climate crisis is escalating", said climate activist Klara König from Fridays For Future Austria, outlining the reasons for the renewed protest.

The movement has been calling for compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement since its strikes began, yet the government is "drifting aimlessly into the climate crisis. The ÖVP is blocking even the smallest change of course and the Greens are accepting that", König criticised the Austrian federal government, pointing to the outstanding climate protection legislation. "Climate neutrality by 2040 is a completely empty promise without any legal framework. We won't be fobbed off with that!"
