From talking to action – CCCA at the Political Discussions in Alpbach 2018

The country needs new, constructive partnerships.

Under the motto "Are you acting or reacting? Countering climate change through new partnerships", CCCA organised a lively and exciting break-out session at the European Forum Alpbach. In it, experts worked together with engaged international students to develop ideas about what concrete steps can be taken within one's own sphere of influence towards climate change adaptation and emissions reduction.

Impulses for the dialogue were provided by Elisabeth Blanik (Mayor, City of Lienz), Johann Prammer (Director of Environmental Management, voestalpine GmbH) and Ola Altera (Director, Swedish Climate Policy Council): drawing on good practice examples, they showed what is already being implemented today in municipalities, business and politics on the topic of climate change.

The dialogue was further enriched by the expertise of Gerhard Wotawa, Karl Steininger, Eva Schulev-Steindl, Günther Emberger and Sybille Chiari.

Concrete ideas for a follow-up emerged, among other things, on the topic of transport in the city of Lienz and in the area of sustainable tourism, together with Florian Werner (Vice President, Austrian Hotel Association).

Sybille Chiari (BOKU) and Isabella Uhl-Hädicke (University of Salzburg) gathered their impressions and conclusions in a reader comment for Der Standard: <link https: derstandard.at klimaziele-gruene-loesungen-mit-wohlfuehlfaktor-werden-nicht-reichen external-link-new-window internal link in current>"Climate targets: 'Green' solutions with a feel-good factor won't be enough"
