The areas of climate protection and climate change adaptation and health promotion are to be more closely networked, and initial impulses for joint action at this interface are to be supported. The Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK) has therefore initiated the funding call "Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Health" in order to promote, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), impulses that address this interface. Innovative approaches that integrate the areas of climate and health promotion are being funded.
As part of a wide-ranging ideas workshop with stakeholders from the field held in April 2021, areas for action were identified where, on the one hand, there is a great need for action and, on the other hand, significant overlaps with co-benefits for both health promotion and the climate were identified. The present funding call now offers the opportunity to initiate integrated solutions and to gather learning experiences for further roll-out and future collaboration through accompanying reflection.
Impulses for the following areas of action are being funded:
- Education and skills development
- Communication and networking
- Health-promoting and climate-friendly nutrition
- Housing and spatial planning
- Active mobility
A detailed description of the areas of action and the specific funding opportunities can be found HERE. A particular focus is also placed on activities towards a sustainable health sector.
This funding call centres on the question of how health promotion on the one hand and climate protection and/or climate change adaptation on the other can be addressed equally. Therefore, submitted impulses must demonstrate a clear connection to climate change and health promotion. The involvement of people with climate expertise and people with expertise in health promotion must be demonstrated. Submitted impulses must primarily address the structural level (rather than the behavioural level), take equity into account, and consider the gender perspective. Given the short duration, both new initiatives and activities that provide a new impulse within already ongoing projects are eligible for funding.
