Governing Austria to be climate-fit: How our country can become a global leader in climate protection

Environmental organisations & climate referendum demand 15 major future projects from the incoming federal government – eco-social reform and investment as key priorities

Vienna (OTS) - "Governing Austria to be climate-fit" — under this motto, the three environmental organisations WWF Austria, GLOBAL 2000, and VCÖ – Mobility with a Future, together with the climate referendum, are calling on the incoming federal government to adopt an ambitious package of measures. A total of 15 future projects are meant to ensure that Austria moves from being one of Europe's laggards to a global leader in climate protection. At the heart of the package are an eco-social tax reform, an annual climate protection billion, a major energy-saving programme with a phase-out of oil and gas, and a genuine shift in mobility.

"Time is pressing — every further delay will be costly and harmful to people and nature. That's why the new government programme must make climate protection an absolute priority and put effective measures in place quickly. Quite simply, we can no longer afford anything less," says WWF climate spokesperson Karl Schellmann.
