The European Commission has published the work programme for the "Green Deal" call under Horizon 2020. This measure serves to address the climate crisis and protect the environment and biodiversity in Europe, whilst also supporting Europe's recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and directly contributing to the EU's recovery plan for Europe.

The call opens on 22 September 2020 with a submission deadline of 26 January 2021.

A total budget of 1 billion euros is available across 10 areas to rapidly develop projects with implementation-oriented solutions:

  1. Increasing climate ambition: cross-sectoral challenges
  2. Clean, affordable and secure energy
  3. Industry for a clean and circular economy
  4. Energy-efficient and resource-efficient buildings
  5. Sustainable and smart mobility
  6. From farm to fork
  7. Biodiversity and ecosystem services
  8. A pollution-free and toxic-free environment
  9. Strengthening knowledge to support the European Green Deal
  10. Empowering citizens for the transition to a climate-neutral, sustainable Europe
