Insight: Climate Discourse Monitoring 2025: How Austria talks about climate, decisions, and measures

The Climate Discourse Monitoring by the Kontext Institute for Climate Issues shows: in 2024, significantly fewer climate policy statements were made in public discourse than in the previous year. And what's more, there's been a clear shift in content.

The key findings at a glance:

  • Climate topics were less present in Austrian media in 2024 than in 2023
  • Constructive statements predominate, but delaying statements increased
  • SPÖ and Greens tend to be constructive, ÖVP and FPÖ tend to be delaying
  • Politics dominant, science constructive, activists less present

The way climate is talked about influences which decisions are made and which measures are taken. This makes constructive and solution-oriented discourse all the more important. The "Climate Discourse Monitoring 2025" by the KONTEXT Institute for Climate Issues puts the climate debate in Austria into numbers and outlines strategies for constructive discourse.
