In an open letter addressed to Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice-Chancellor Strache, Federal Minister Köstinger, and Federal Ministers Löger and Hofer, WWF together with Austrian climate researchers is calling on the government to use the announced "biggest tax reform of all time" (<link https: orf.at stories external-link-new-window internal link in current>Chamber of Commerce President Harald Mahrer) to give the Austrian tax system a strong environmental dimension.
Currently, the share of eco-taxes in Austria stands at just 5.6% of total tax revenue, which is below the EU average. For instance, the tax component of fuel prices is comparatively low. Fuel costs more in all of Austria's neighbouring countries than it does here.
The appeal was signed by prominent researchers and members of the CCCA board. You can read the full letter <link file:5274 download internal link in current> here .
