Feedback from some participants of the 2017 Writing Workshop:
1) "...I found the workshop extremely exciting and useful - and the two DOSSIER colleagues were absolutely brilliant. I've rarely experienced media training that was so sharp and goal-oriented. It's crying out to be repeated, to reach even more researchers.
2) "...first of all I'd like to say thanks for the organisation. I'm really glad I got to take part! From here on, feedback for the two of them: I particularly enjoyed the morning session. There was a lot in there that I didn't know yet and it was really engaging. I liked that everything was explained with examples and the method in general - a talk with a good level of interaction. The afternoon talk was good too. When correcting our own texts, you could quickly change things that obviously made the text more readable. My only criticism is the going-through of all the texts at the end. It dragged a bit, because you couldn't take in the content of the other texts so quickly. But my own feedback was helpful. So the criticism is about the method. Maybe you could split into 2 groups, or it might help if everyone briefly introduces their text. The kitchen shout-out to my friend was very positive when he asked in the evening how it went!"
3) "...what was good: I really enjoyed the first part of the workshop. Questions like: "What tools does a journalist work with?" could be clarified. The practical exercise on the kitchen shout-out was also very fitting.
what I didn't enjoy as much: the second part. It would have been enough to pick out 2-3 texts and work through them together. Often the other participants had no idea what the other texts were even about and so couldn't really contribute."
DOSSIER: A Journalism Workshop for the Climate Change Centre Austria
What makes a good story? How do you nail a gripping opening? And how do you write engagingly about a seemingly dry topic? In the writing workshop, the speakers work together with participants on the fundamentals of journalistic writing, learning how to tell stories in a compelling and accessible way. Alongside practical examples of the right writing style, the workshop also offers tips for successful publications: the trainers show how to structure and write a press release so that it grabs attention and gets picked up by the media.
