MAK dedicates 2021 to Viennese Modernism and climate change

The Museum of Applied Arts will be showing exhibitions on Josef Hoffmann, women of the Wiener Werkstätte, and Klimt's teachers in the coming year.

Viennese Modernism and climate change are the two defining themes at the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in the coming year. Alongside exhibitions on Josef Hoffmann, women of the Wiener Werkstätte, and Gustav Klimt's teachers, the "Vienna Biennale for Change" will take place for the fourth time, as was announced on Friday. The cooperative event, featuring countless activities and offerings, is this time dedicated to "Planet Love".

With the programme for the coming year, the museum aims to showcase "the visionary potential of applied and fine arts", as Director General Christoph Thun-Hohenstein and Chief Executive Officer Teresa Mitterlehner-Marchesani are quoted as saying. This encompasses the "inspirational power of Viennese Modernism, still felt to this day", as well as the "central challenges of the 21st century" covered under the "Climate Care" focus. The hope is to "enthuse visitors about these key topics".
