Measures to tackle the climate crisis

Fridays for Future is calling on the European Commission to strengthen EU measures to tackle the climate crisis in order to keep maximum warming below 1.5°C. This requires more ambitious targets and increased financial resources for climate protection.

Our demands

  • The EU should tighten its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs*) under the Paris Agreement with regard to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 % by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2035, and adapt European climate legislation accordingly.
  • An EU carbon border adjustment mechanism should be introduced.
  • No free trade agreements should be concluded with countries that, according to the Climate Action Tracker assessment, are not on track to meet the 1.5 °C target.
  • The EU should provide free educational materials on the impacts of climate change for all member states.
