K3 Prize for Climate Communication: A competition worth 15,000 euros aims to recognise communication that "informs with substance and activates" — with categories in citizen projects, science communication, and climate journalism.
For the first time this year, a prize for climate communication worth a total of 15,000 euros is being announced. The K3 Prize for Climate Communication is set to recognise people, initiatives, and projects from German-speaking countries that have succeeded in an outstanding way in delivering "good climate communication" — that is, communication on climate and climate change that is, on the one hand, grounded in science, and on the other, breaks new ground in motivating and activating people to take action on climate protection. The competition opens immediately, with a submission deadline of 23 July 2021.
Applications can be submitted in three categories:
- the KLIMA ARENA Citizens' Prize in the category Talking, Storytelling, Participating, for communication formats from everyday life and the workplace, local communities, and neighbourhoods,
- the Eunice Foote Prize for Climate Communication in the category Knowledge, Context, Debate, for science communication,
- the K3 Prize in the category Climate Journalism, with a particular focus on local and regional journalism.
The prize is awarded by the K3 partners klimafakten.de, Deutsches Klima-Konsortium (DKK), Climate Change Centre Austria, National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS) Switzerland and ProClim at the Swiss Academy of Sciences, as well as by the Austrian climate protection initiative klimaaktiv and the KLIMA ARENA of the Klimastiftung für Bürger. A high-calibre jury will decide on the award of the 1st and 2nd prizes, worth 4,000 and 1,000 euros respectively, in both categories.
Applications must be submitted via this link!
The prize is due to be awarded on 7 October 2021. Subject to the COVID-19 pandemic allowing it, the award ceremony will take place at the KLIMA ARENA in Sinsheim. The K3 Prize is closely linked organisationally to the K3 Congress on Climate Communication, which will next take place in Switzerland in 2022. CCCA's involvement in the K3 partnership is supported by the Klima- und Energiefonds.
