New Book Published: Schönwiese "Klimawandel kompakt"

Everyone's talking about climate change, but where does weather end and "climate" begin? What processes drive our climate? What exactly is climate change, how long has it been happening, what are its causes and what role does humanity play in it? What are the risks and consequences of climate change? And last but not least: what does the future hold for us and what needs to be done?

With answers to these questions, Prof. Schönwiese addresses all readers who are interested in the issue of climate change and want to be informed in a technically accurate yet concise way. Since we all depend on the favour of the climate, we cannot be indifferent to what happens to it. Insofar as we influence the climate ourselves, we bear a particular responsibility.

The author is an internationally renowned climatologist, a reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has been intensively engaged with climate change in research and teaching for decades. He has authored over 200 specialist publications on the subject.

In this book, he describes climate change and its many causes in a current and rigorously scientific — yet still accessible — manner.
Another aim was to write a book that presents the complex subject matter so accurately that scientists can confidently recommend it to non-scientists alike. In doing so, he spans the arc from the early history of the Earth through to the climate of today's industrial age, which is a particular subject of public debate due to discussions about human influences on the climate.

He explains how climate model calculations are carried out, covering climate change in both the past and the present. So-called projections offer a glimpse into the future, including the meteorological, ecological and socioeconomic impacts of climate change as well as climate policy.

The text is complemented and illustrated by 11 tables and 32 colour figures. These are accompanied by an extensive bibliography, a selection of internet links and a detailed index.
