New CCCA Fact Sheet on "Mobility and Climate Change" published

The transport sector still accounts for around 28% of Austrian greenhouse gases. Efficiency-enhancing measures, such as switching to electric mobility or alternative fuels, are not sufficient to achieve climate targets in the transport sector. Measures that influence travel behaviour — such as introducing full cost pricing for all modes of transport, restructuring infrastructure in favour of sustainable transport, and speed limits — are necessary to meet climate targets.

Goals and Plans
To achieve the EU Green Deal targets, Austria must reduce its transport CO2 emissions to near zero by 2040. The Mobility Masterplan 2030 identifies reduction potentials and pathways: "… business trips are carried out by bus, train, and electric car in carpools … flights increasingly replaced by other public transport."

The authors Günter Emberger and Tadej Brezina from Vienna University of Technology have examined the impacts of road traffic, Austrian transport emissions, options for action, and transport and spatial planning in the new CCCA Fact Sheet entitled "Mobility and Climate Change"
