New fact sheet entitled "Increasing bark beetle damage in the context of climate change" published

CCCA Fact Sheets, as easy-to-understand brief summaries of climate-relevant fundamentals, offer the opportunity to stay informed about current research findings.

A new fact sheet on the topic of "Impacts on Agriculture" has recently been published, entitled "Increasing bark beetle damage in the context of climate change".

The authors are Gernot Hoch and Gottfried Steyrer from the Federal Research Centre for Forests.

The Federal Research Centre for Forests (BFW) has been coordinating the Austria-wide documentation of forest damage factors (DWF) since 2002, based on surveys carried out by district forestry services. The assessment procedure focuses on the physiological damage to trees, regardless of any subsequent salvage harvesting. Damage is assigned to the year in which it occurs. The DWF allows for tracking the annual development of damaged timber volumes due to bark beetle infestation (book printer and other bark beetle species are recorded by species) and due to abiotic damage events such as storm damage and snow breakage.
