October on track for a record – ZAMG interim review of October 2022


It is very likely to be one of the three warmest Octobers in recorded history, and possibly even the warmest.

October has a few days still to go, but it's already clear that it's one of the warmest in Austria's recorded history.

"Taking into account the course of the month so far and the forecast trend for the coming days, this October in Austria's lowlands is virtually certain to be one of the three warmest in the 256-year history of measurements," says Alexander Orlik from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG). "Based on the current forecast, it could even be the warmest October in recorded history, just ahead of October in the years 1795, 1811, and 2001. The final ranking will depend on whether there is perhaps still a cold air incursion towards the end of the month."
