On 7 October 2024, the call for funding applications for Children's and Youth Universities in 2025 was launched. Project applications can be submitted by 2 December 2024, 12:00 via the online submission platform at OeAD. Funding is available for projects that offer children and young people engaging, age-appropriate introductions to the world of research and science, with a particular focus on diversity and inclusion, as well as fostering children's and young people's understanding of sustainable development and active participation in society. In addition to the Children's and Youth Universities, an extension module entitled "Holiday childcare with a scientific focus" can also be funded.
Funding from the BMBWF is capped at a maximum of 30 per cent of the respective total budget and no more than 70,000 euros per Children's and Youth University project. Extension modules receive funding of up to 50,000 euros per project, with up to 100 per cent coverage of eligible costs possible. Since 2024, there has also been the option to apply for additional funding from the State of Lower Austria, Department of Science and Research. This funding, which is also administered through OeAD (Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation), is intended for projects with a connection to Lower Austria or taking place there.
