ORF report on agriculture, drought and climate change

Many farmers in the east and south of the country are struggling with dry soils.

From the article: "For weeks, the weather has been causing great concern among many farmers. In particular in the south and east of Austria, drought and frost are a major problem: most recently, wine and fruit growers have been anxiously watching their shoots, whilst other farmers are battling dry and dusty fields.

Fodder meadows, winter barley and winter wheat in particular are currently not developing as they should in many areas of eastern and southern Austria. It is "nothing unusual" for these regions to be affected by drought at this time of year, as Klaus Haslinger, a climate researcher at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), told ORF.at."
