Participants from all over the world at passathon 2023


The now over 1,000 participants in the passathon 2023 – RACE FOR FUTURE are coming from all over the world. They're all out on bikes or on foot, exploring Austria's most climate-friendly buildings. After 16 weeks, 26,600 old building renovations and new builds have already been discovered under their own steam, to see for themselves that with commitment, the energy transition by 2040 is still achievable. The leading team from Union Radclub St. Margarethen has already cycled to 1,000 landmark buildings, even tackling the Großglockner High Alpine Road along the way. In doing so, they're showing that every effort must be made in the fight against the looming climate crisis.

671 climate-fit examples of evidence Since 2019, this "sustainability sports event" has taken place annually and records a significant increase each year in both the number of landmark buildings and interested participants. "With the passathon 2023 - RACE FOR FUTURE, we're working to bring the topic of sustainable, climate-fit construction and renovation to a wider audience through active participation," explains Günter Lang, organiser of the passathon. He adds: "This way, people can quite literally experience for themselves how PM: Participants from all over the world at passathon 2023 Vienna, 31.07.2023, G. Lang widely and diversely the best solutions already exist across Austria, just waiting to be discovered." In cooperation with the "Österreich radelt App", 671 best-practice examples of sustainable architecture can be explored by bike until 30 September 2023 — new builds and renovations alike, as well as buildings with a wide variety of uses. These include virtually all state prize winners for architecture and sustainability.
