Publication: Synthesis of the 6th assessment report of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

In March 2023, the Synthesis of the 6th Assessment Report of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be published. In the now 6th reporting cycle of the IPCC, several hundred scientists have once again compiled the most relevant facts about climate change for policy, business, and society.

The final synthesis report will be presented in German at the symposium "Synthesis of the 6th IPCC Assessment Report" at the ÖAW. This report summarises the key messages of the working group volumes (Physical Science Basis; Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability; Mitigation) as well as recent special reports on the "1.5 degree target", "Ocean and Cryosphere" and "Climate Change and Land Systems". The symposium is being organised by the ÖAW Commission on Climate and Air Quality together with CCCA (Climate Change Centre Austria) and the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. The speakers, all of whom are leading IPCC authors, will present the most important findings of the reports and answer participants' questions. The first day is dedicated to presentations, discussion of the implications, and a general Q&A. This will be followed by an interactive look into the Climate Council under the motto "Together for the Climate" — Austria's first nationwide citizens' council — showcasing how participatory processes can help shape key and complex questions about our society's future.

We'd like to draw your attention to two ÖAW events:
