Recommendations: Austria's renewed climate change adaptation strategy presented


The "guidance document" covers over 120 concrete recommendations for action in areas such as agriculture and forestry, health, water management, and tourism.

The two-pillar principle of climate policy encompasses not only the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions but also adaptation to impacts that can no longer be avoided. The measures required for this are set out in the climate change adaptation strategy first adopted in 2012. Most recently, the second progress report (BMK 2021) was published in 2021, on the basis of which the "Austrian Strategy for Adapting to Climate Change" has now been developed.

The strategy has already been adopted by the federal government and will now be submitted to the federal states for approval at the Regional Ministers' Conference on Climate Protection…
