A total of 22 projects from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have been nominated for this year's K3 Prize for Climate Communication, which carries prize money of €15,000. Now being awarded for the second time, the prize recognises projects and initiatives from the German-speaking world that aim to motivate people to take action on climate protection and encourage sustainable behaviour through innovative formats and offerings.
The 22 nominated projects were selected from more than a hundred applications from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. A jury of renowned experts in climate change and climate communication will now determine the final winners. The award ceremony will take place on 15 September 2022 as part of the K3 Congress on Climate Communication in Zurich.
The following projects from Austria appear on the shortlist:
- The interactive "Theatre with Climate Change", with several performances in the Austrian Bregenzerwald, encouraged audience members to reflect on their own behaviour and think about more sustainable ways of acting.
- At the Austrian Climate Youth Council, 60 young participants between the ages of 14 and 27 were able to discuss aspects of the climate crisis with 14 high-profile political decision-makers in the parliamentary building in Vienna, and to develop their own solutions in working groups.
- The "Climate Dashboard" presents scientific data visually, enabling a broad audience to interactively explore which impacts of climate change are already observable in Austria, as well as what measures need to be taken for a climate-friendly future.
- On the Austrian platform "Inspektorin Grün", a research collective takes a closer look at companies' sustainability pledges, with the aim of giving consumers the tools they need to make sustainable purchasing decisions.
