Staging climate change – Climate communication in the arts and culture sector

Discussion event as part of K3 - En Route

Together with pioneers of (climate) arts and culture, researchers, and the audience, we'd like to discuss the role of the arts and culture sector in climate communication on 30 September 2021, from 6–9 pm at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna

Panel guests:

  • Werner Boote, filmmaker
  • Natalie Driemeyer, dramaturg and pioneer of climate theatre
  • Martina Fröschl, staff member at the Science Visualization Lab at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
  • Marlies Wirth, curator of the Climate Care exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts

What can art do that science cannot?

What kind of leverage can the arts and culture sector exert when it comes to tackling the climate crisis? Is the cultural sector really responsible?

We'll be talking about how the arts and culture sector navigates the tightrope between positive visions of the future and a sense of impending doom, how audiences respond to climate-cultural initiatives, and how climate science and the cultural sector might mutually inspire each other in the future.
