The Second Austrian Assessment Report on climate change (AAR2), presented last June, has once again confirmed that the climate in Austria is changing faster than previously assumed. Heat, water scarcity, and risks to critical infrastructure are the result. In light of these developments, forward-looking measures are urgently needed, with application-oriented basic research forming the foundation. This is where ACRP comes in. Equipped with €2 million in funding from the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK), it supports research projects and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Submissions are now open.
Environment Minister Norbert Totschnig: "Climate change is already a reality in Austria — with tangible impacts on the population, agriculture and forestry, and tourism. To be able to implement effective and sustainable measures, we need solid scientific foundations. This is exactly where climate research comes in, providing the basis for political strategies and decisions."
Climate and Energy Fund Managing Director Bernd Vogl: "This year's call under our climate research programme focuses on projects that drive transformative change. The emphasis is on innovative and in-depth approaches that go beyond purely incremental improvements and take into account the underlying mechanisms within and between systems."
Details about ACRP
ACRP is Austria's most important climate research programme and helps to better understand the causes and impact chains of the climate crisis, minimise its effects, provide insights into climate change adaptation strategies, and strengthen Austria as a location for science and business in the medium and long term. In 2025, the programme focuses on the following priorities:
- Understanding the climate system and the consequences of climate change
- Targeted support for Austrian policy
- Transformative change
Applications for the ACRP 2025 funding programme must be submitted by 15 April 2026 at 12:00 via FFG eCall!
Up to €2 million is available for the research programme. The maximum funding per project is €200,000.
