That was the 23rd Austrian Climate Day in Leoben

From 11–13 April, the Montanuniversität Leoben hosted the 23rd Austrian Climate Day, the most important interdisciplinary networking event for the Austrian climate research community. Under the motto "Resources in Transition", scientists discussed current challenges in the areas of resources, climate, energy and the environment. In a newly conceived "Junior Conference", young people with an interest in research also took part in the event.

Montanuni as venue

The Montanuniversität Leoben provides the ideal setting for the Climate Day, as sustainability research is becoming increasingly important and is reflected in the university's core areas of expertise: Advanced Resources, Smart Materials and Sustainable Processing. Not least for this reason, the Resources Innovation Center Leoben (RIC Leoben) was established, which, among other things, manages the university's international involvement in the areas of sustainable research, education and industrialisation. The vision is to drive forward a climate-friendly and sustainable future for the raw materials sector. This makes Montanuniversität the ideal host for the 23rd Austrian Climate Day.

Climate Day – Climate Scenarios 2026 will be more than just an update

In 2026, the current Austrian Climate Scenarios 2015 (ÖKS15) will be replaced by a new version. The work, which is already in development, will be more than just an update of its predecessor. The scenarios, which are aligned with the new global climate scenarios of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will be expanded to include new parameters, and a special focus will also be placed on urban climate, as Matthias Themeßl of GeoSphere Austria announced at the Climate Day in Leoben.
