That was the Climathon 2018 in Graz

Graz is one of the most innovative cities when it comes to climate policy. Many start-ups are based here, dedicating themselves to the topic with fresh ideas and their implementation.

In and around Graz, there are also many universities and institutions actively working on the topic of climate. Knowledge that can be put into practice through the Climathon and its participants.


The Climathon is a 24-hour climate hackathon taking place worldwide. In more than 100 cities across six continents, entrepreneurs, students, pupils, programmers, and political decision-makers come together to collaborate on new, creative solutions to local problems related to climate change.
The Climathon offers the chance to develop local solutions to one of the most pressing problems of our time through an innovation process.

The Climathon was conceived by Climate-KIC as a 24-hour hackathon. This year it's taking place worldwide for the fourth time and has grown into a global movement — offering cities and their residents the opportunity to get active and jointly tackle the unique challenges of a city. The first Climathon involved 19 cities, by 2017 there were already 104, and this year there are over 120 cities.
