The Best Books on the Climate Crisis 2023 — Ten Books in Focus

There's no good news: according to the IPCC report 2023, greenhouse gas emissions have continued to rise, and the measures currently planned by governments make global warming of more than 1.5 degrees not only more likely — it's also becoming increasingly difficult to stay below the 2-degree threshold. The consequences of such an increase would be catastrophic for the world. The IPCC team makes clear in its frank and unvarnished assessments that time is not only running short but is in danger of running out altogether. Action is more urgent than ever. The question is how we can achieve the transition to a sustainable society. In what kinds of political and economic systems can this succeed? These are the questions the books presented in this working paper grapple with.
