For 30 years he has been trying to make politicians and society aware of the gravity of climate change and the consequences of global warming, yet people still ask him with an almost disbelieving look whether it's really that bad.
His personal conclusion is correspondingly bleak: "I can't convince people," he says – he could talk for a hundred years and it wouldn't make a difference. "As a society, we are incapable of drawing the right conclusions from the knowledge we've had for decades," says the 65-year-old on Wednesday at the congress on "Climate Change, Communication and Society" at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

For two days, experts from home and abroad gathered on the Süd Campus to address the question of how science can help drive social change and encourage people to take climate protection seriously.
