VCÖ Mobility Prize Vienna: Car Bet, Pedestrian Zone, Redesign of Praterstraße

The VCÖ Mobility Prize Vienna goes to the "Car Bet" by Wiener Linien. 37 Viennese households handed over their car keys for three months and got around using public transport, bicycles and sharing services. This year's renowned VCÖ Mobility Prize was held under the theme "Future-Ready for City and Country". Two further exemplary projects were also recognised by VCÖ, City Councillor Ulli Sima and ÖBB: the redesign of Galileigasse in Vienna's Alsergrund district into a pedestrian zone, implemented by students from TU Wien in cooperation with the district, as well as the planning office 3:0 Landschaftsarchitektur for the redesign of Praterstraße.

"The projects recognised this year are trailblazing for sustainable, liveable and future-oriented mobility development in Vienna, and since we are – among other things with our suburban rail services – an integral part of public transport in our beautiful capital city, I'd like to thank all partners and those involved for their commitment and the courage to try new approaches, as well as the innovative drive that has emerged from this," says Christof Hermann, Regional Manager ÖBB Personenverkehr.

VCÖ offers a free online project database containing more than 2,500 exemplary mobility projects. Schools, municipalities, cities, businesses, tourism regions and housing developers can use it to find inspiration for how transport challenges can be addressed in a climate-friendly way.
